An abandoned ranch in western South Dakota

Since I grew up in South Dakota I thought a good place to start would be a photo that reflects this history. This photo from western South Dakota seems perfect.

I took this photo several years ago driving across the state of South Dakota from west to east. It was around 110 degrees and this place was about as desolate as any I’ve ever seen. I snapped a couple of photos before I couldn’t take the heat and got back into my car and continued the drive. This one has become one of the most viewed photos on my Flickr photostream.

  1. Nice photo, Mike. It looks like you and I have similar ideas. 🙂 http://shephardphoto.wordpress.com/2009/04/11/abandoned/

    • Yeah thanks Scott, I saw your blog link on Facebook about the same time i was messing with other blog templates and saw this theme. I figured it would be a good way to get some of my online photos organized in one place. I’ve been enjoying your blog quite a bit by the way, as well as your flickr and picasa links. Great photos.
